"The impact that Learn to Be has had on the students I have tutored is genuinely inspiring. I remember one particular child on the verge of being held back in third grade. He was struggling not only with his academics but also with his confidence. After working closely with him, he showed significant improvement. It was an incredible moment when he passed."

Voices from 2025

Their Words, Not Ours

"My name is Meenakshi, and I am a high school senior from New Jersey. I have been with Learn To Be for over 3 years now, have completed over 615 hours of tutoring, and have had the wonderful privilege of participating in the inaugural Tutor Corp program."
Meenakshi V. — Tutor, 615+ Hours
"I'm a retired teacher from New York City. I've been involved with Learn To Be for several years now, and have achieved over 450 hours of tutoring. Tutees get high-quality help without having to pay the exorbitant fees that many tutors today charge."
Larry G. — Retired Teacher, 450+ Hours
"When I first joined LTB as a Federal Work Study student, it began as a means to an end. I needed a job. But what I've gained from this experience has been far more valuable than a paycheck. The joy, purpose, and fulfillment I feel from being part of this program have exceeded every expectation."
Marla B. — Federal Work Study Tutor
"With Thanksgiving approaching, I want to express my gratitude for being part of the Learn To Be community. It has been a privilege to volunteer alongside you and to support the students we serve. The impact we make together is truly meaningful."
Ryan P. — Volunteer Tutor

Volunteer-Powered

Learn To Be's tutors are volunteers — high school students, college students, retired teachers, and working professionals who donate their time. This means nearly every dollar goes directly to supporting the tutoring program, not paying instructors.

At $6.33 per hour, we deliver high-quality 1-on-1 tutoring at a fraction of what families would pay on the open market — where the average tutor charges $40–60/hour.

$6
per hour vs $50 market rate
That's 8x more efficient than hiring a private tutor.
"We are reading Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets — I'm having her read a chapter a night and then she and I are taking turns reading aloud in our sessions. This is a really rewarding position. I am beginning to find myself excited for the next session with these girls."
— Marla B., Tutor
